Crusaders Open

March was a busy and exciting time for Crusaders Squash Club. We were to hold our first open tournament! Preparations began, notices went out, sponsors secured, prizes sourced and all systems were a go. Much to our delight, the entries started pouring in and we were able to field 5 sections, catering to all strengths.

With Nola’s expert help the draw was done and posted and the tournament started. A few glitches were experienced and players waited patiently for their time slots and the great camaraderie amongst the players helped to ease the time delays. To help with our woes we had load shedding as well but our trusty electrician connected up a generator and play went on.

Finals day: With sunny skies and a great vibe going finals got underway. Each section was keenly contested with some really exciting matches. Well done to all the winners. The A section 3rd/4th playoff started with Adrian playing Daryn. Adrian narrowly lost to Matt on Saturday after a hard and long match and the experience was the order of the day in beating Daryn 3-0 in the playoff. Justin and Matt was a running game of the highest order and made for great watching and a close match seeing Justin win 3-1.

A big thank you to all our sponsors, Castle Lite, Space TV, The Stringer and all the prize donors – these sponsors make it possible to hold tournaments and promote the game of squash. We look forward to seeing you all next year.
