KWA-ZULU NATAL PRIMARY
SCHOOLS SQUASH ASSOCIATION

Hi Everyone,
I hope you have all had a wonderful holiday and are back in the swing of things. As you may be aware Kerry Coetsee has resigned as Chairperson, and although I have approached a number of people I have not been able to find a replacement. I will organise the Primary schools for this year and hopefully assist someone to take over in 2017.

Tournament Rules 2016
I am going to try and keep to Kerry’s rules as they did seem to work. "Requirements for selection into the KZN squash teams". Please read carefully!

Tournament Entries
The first tournament is on Sunday, the 31st of January and will be in Durban and Pietermaritzburg for for that designated area so that an order can be sorted out. This is late notice I know but we have to start as soon as possible. Please could you let me know by Friday if your learner will be participating.
Pietermaritzburg Boys - Clifton Nottingham road
Pietermaritzburg Girls - Epworth
Durban to be confirmed
As we do not know numbers please will all players report at 8:00 and we will have 2 courts for each age group.
If numbers are excessive we will notify you and let you know any changes in times.

Entry Fee
The cost will be R140 for this tournament (this includes registration fee which I have detailed below). At this stage we do not have an account and there is no money so I have an appointment on the 2nd February to set up a new account. PLEASE WILL EVERYONE BRING CASH to the first tournament and I will appoint someone to collect it.

SA Registration
Last year Squash SA introduced a registration fee for ALL squash players in South Africa. Any junior or senior player who wishes to play in league, national or provincial tournaments or Inter-provincial tournaments are required to pay R120 for which they will receive a registration number. Any learner, who is new to squash will pay R40 for the year and should they continue competitively next year the registration fee will be R120.00. The registration fee is payable to Squash South Africa and the player is registered with Sport:80 which will disseminate information throughout the year and which will produce a South African ranking.
Please direct any queries to: info@squashsa.co.za.

We look forward to seeing you on the 31st January - in Durban and Pietermaritzburg.
Kind regards,
Sally

Junior Squash - Newsletter

July 2012
I would like to start by saying WELL DONE, to those who represented KZN in the recent IPT; I have no doubt that you gave your best. Winning is a bonus and for those who did not make it this year remember there is next year as well (more about that later in this newsletter).
It has been a while since the last newsletter and during that time there have been lots happening and I would like to bring you up to speed.
Many schools move away from squash during this half of the year while others see the need to continue. Close to the end of the second term I was offered the privilege to coach Danville Girls High School, which I gladly accepted. Having done two sessions with them before the end of term was also good, I was able to briefly assess them before some went off to the IPT. We should not fail in giving praise were it is due, Fiona Mann has done a great job in ensuring the basic technique is instilled from the beginning and she has maintained that. After my first session with the girls I noticed that there is very little that needs to be done with this regard. For those who know me as a coach, you will know that correct technique is always my point of departure.
Other developments that have happened; I would like to thank Oliver sports (www.oliver-sports.com) for the sponsorship; this was facilitated by Tony Jackson of Jackson Sports. We are all aware as to how costly the sport can become more so when you are a full-time coach (for more about this do look at the SquashMan website, www.squashman.com, as I have posted some articles there as well about their equipment).
It has been identified that there is a need for not just more development but coaching and matches at school level. One possibility in addressing this is through creating opportunities and Westville Country Club has been generous in opening their facilities to us for this. They have agreed to reduce the rates for the lights so that we can reduce the cost for the coaching on Saturday’s. A number of people have shown an interest in participating in this and not only would we appreciate your support but also your feedback. I will be working with the beginners and advanced players and for those who have young brothers and sisters and would like to see them involved Brenda has indicated her interest in doing TOTBALL. This is a very good basic introduction to racquet sports and also benefits the children in developing their hand-eye coordination. We would like to start this on Saturday (28 July 2012) from 9-11am and it will cost R20-00 per player for the two hour session. The format is quite simple, there will be structured training/coaching for the first hour and then teams will be formed and matches played for the second hour. There is a balance we are trying to create through this, by making structured, fun and create a sense of team as well. We will be looking to seeing you at Saturday squash at Westville Country Club.
Your squash success next year will be determined by how much you put in this year.
Keep playing and training hard…
Quinton
